Kiwanis Club of Greater Cary Supports Children’s Literacy Efforts

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Cary is supporting Cary-based Read and Feed in its efforts to strengthen literacy skills among underserved elementary school children and provide meals in a nurturing neighborhood environment.

Read and Feed provides underserved children with free books and supplies, meals, and tutoring. They operate three mobile classrooms and have program sites in schools and churches across Wake County and the surrounding area. In 2025, Read and Feed served more than 700 children and provided nearly 9,000 hours of tutoring.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Cary is proud to support Read and Feed with a book drive and an evening of volunteering on June 17th, 2026. Read and Feed accepts donations of new and gently used books intended for children in grades K-5. Read and Feed welcomes most age-appropriate books, and it also maintains Amazon and Quail Ridge Books wish lists. They do not accept torn or otherwise damaged books, activity books, textbooks, dictionaries, thesauruses, or overtly religious books.

Those wishing to support Read and Feed through the Kiwanis book drive may bring the books to any of our meetings before June 17th. Please check our calendar for locations and dates.

Kiwanis Club members who wish to participate in the evening of volunteering should complete this form to indicate their desire. Volunteers are limited due to the capacity of the Read and Feed offices, so let us know ASAP.
